Good ideals but taken too far. There are statements that are contradictory to existing regulations. What is being stated are core values already expected from senior members of our squadron while working with cadets. As the DCC, I demand that seniors working with the cadets that I am responsible for leading follow such high values. I discuss such values and actions with the senior staff on a regular basis. I don't see the need to press such documents to state comon sense. These are traits that should be evident at the time any adult submits an application for membership. Individuals should be screened for these traits and agree to such behavior from the begining and it is the resposibility of the Commander to do so. There is no need for yet another CAP document to state the obvious. Lets not make more policy to make things better, just use better leadership. Capt Woltz, RMR-ID-083, Deputy Commander for Cadets
I believe a separate code could be a positive action. I just wonder how leadership will be held to this code. Perhaps a closer evaluation of senior officers before they assume roles as Cadet Programs Officers would be the right thing to do. Too many want leadership in the program but fail to respect the cadets, mentor, mentor, mentor. Thank you for all you do for Civil Air Patrol. Capt Hazel Senter
This looks like a well thought out document that addresses the great responsibilities we Senior Members have when working with our Cadets. As Senior Members responsible for the supervision, mentoring and safety of our cadets, whether full or part time; it is absolutely vital and our greatest responsibility to provide nothing less than the highest standards of leadership and make that leadership an example of our expectations for them as future leaders, themselves. I believe Capt Catron’s Code of Conduct is a very good and reasonable foundation on which to build and adopt for anyone with the desire to participate within the Cadet Program. Col Michael Jay Murrell, National Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations
Capt Catron has previously shared with me a draft of his proposed Code of Conduct for CAP officers who work in the Cadet Program. It's an excellent piece of work and I recommend that all read it with an eye toward making a great product even better from shared dialogue. Well done, Capt Catron! RICHARD L. ANDERSON Brigadier General, CAP Chair, CAP Board of Governors
I think the concept is one that is needed. Personal responsibility is key when working with cadets and I really think we need to expand our training and focus on the role of a "mentor" when working with the cadet program.
